Grace in Motion
Gamunu, Yala National Park's legendary tusker, during a rare moment of calm. He is known for his assertive and often aggressive behavior, and he is seen here walking gently across the lush foreground, with the iconic sand dunes of Yala's coastline framing the background.
This image, taken during his prime, when he still had both his tusks intact, serves as a record of history. Unfortunately, he later lost both of his tusks in separate incidents, reminding us of the challenges that wildlife faces.
Tuskers, like Gamunu, are extremely rare among Sri Lankan elephants, with only a small percentage of males having tusks. This makes capturing such a magnificent specimen all the more significant. This photograph required patience and a keen eye to capture his gentle behavior in the midst of his well-known fame.
